Old House

This is a classic urban residence in Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The framework was made of stone blocks with a store or workroom on the ground floor and living quarters above.

I always thought that the wooden parts of the structure had been burnt away, but one day there was a man sitting in front of the red-painted bar next door and I asked him if he knew what had happened.

He told me that the house had been tied up in some sort of legal argument, with some of the litigants off-island, and the termites simply ate away the wood while noone was watching.

Only in the tropics!
